How closely do you monitor your kids text messages? Text +? Facebook? (Should children even BE on a social networking website?) Email etc? Do you come down hard on them when they get a sharp tongue? Do you pay attention to how they speak to others?

I have seen parents of kids as young as 4 and 5 allow them to speak rudely towards other children and even ADULTS without providing any sort of punishment. I have witnessed young girls form packs at parties/other events while making sure to leave out a select few in an extremely malicious and hurtful way while the parents stand by doing absolutely NOTHING.  I’ve even witnessed and been the target of grown men and women (who’s parents clearly did a horrific job in raising them) cyber bully relentlessly to the point of tears, fear and worse.

And I am 1000% sure that it all starts at home.

It is not the responsibility of teachers, or books. Not of wii. Of Twitter, Facebook or Justin Bieber. We as parents are the only ones who can ensure we raise good people. GOOD PEOPLE. These conversations should be had with our kids, and ongoing. There is a dialogue that is necessary in order for our kids to understand the depth of what bullying can do to an indivudual. Show them the videos and articles on all the young children committing suicide over hurtful words. Just words? Yes. WORDS.
